Sherpa Main Fieldwork

Following a pilot fieldwork for Sherpa language in 2017-2018, a second fieldwork on Sherpa language was conducted in two phases during June and August 2018. The first phase was conducted from 6-12th June, 2018 in Kabi, Tingda of North Sikkim and Nimachen, Rongli of East Sikkim. The second phase was conducted successfully during 7-11th August, 2018 in Upper Perbing, South Sikkim. During the fieldwork, a considerable amount of data for Sherpa trilingual dictionary and Sherpa grammatical sketch was collected. All sections of the CEL’s questionnaire were administered. In these fieldwork, some ethnolinguistic aspect of Sherpa, namely Sherpa food making process called Rildo and Sherpa folk song and dances were video recorded. These videos are being edited and annotated. The fieldwork was carried out by the following members:
